Average as a number or place is in the middle; not the best, not the worst. Be successful and not just average.
The title of this website is “you’re just a number”. I sat down this morning and tried to put some meaning to that statement and even understand what it means. How can I be successful and not just a number, average? So, I’m a number, but what number am I? Am I number 1, number 2, number 100, or even number 1,003,489? Does that number really matter? That question blew my mind and was really too hard to answer initially. Then, the next question that came to mind was what is the most consistent factor that would help me be number “1”, or not average? That was not easy to answer either. The last question during this pensive time was how does one become better than average?
Basically, I want to be a number “1”. I don’t want to be average. I feel that the most consistent factor for that is success; success in any aspect that is important to me as there are many areas where one could be successful. And the proof of the definition is there are many people that are successful. How did they get there?
WHAT IS SUCCESS?
Success is the thing people crave more than almost any other, except for maybe love. But getting success isn’t as easy as just wanting it. I had to focus on the goal and what it meant for me, yet most don’t devote and are not willing to devote the time on how they can get there. Think about it. Have you ever fantasized about a certain achievement – perhaps writing a popular novel, getting a promotion and recognition in your field?
I did and i suspect you have; so, you are not alone. But many people fantasize about the end – the result – but they don’t create a plan, a path to get there. They end up nowhere – except for confused, frustrated, and disappointed. Why? They haven’t created a success plan. They haven’t considered the process. It has once been said that if you fail to plan, you plan to fail. This is part of what you need to be successful and not just average.
Simply said, success is the desired outcome. As noted above, success is how you define it. There are many misconceptions as to how to get there. Some have felt that being shy or meek is a way of getting there, but Nelson Mandela negated that statement:
“There is no passion to be found playing small in settling for a life that idles than the one you are capable of living.”
I needed to stand tall, it wasn’t easy all of the time. Dreams do come true, but not by accident.
FAILURE IS PART OF SUCCESS
We as human beings naturally fear failure. But failure is a mechanism for becoming successful. It has been said many times that the most successful people are those that have failed the most. I have looked at the lives of many successful people and how they got there. Here are a couple of examples:

Another famous example of failing the way to success is Thomas Edison. As an inventor, Edison made 1,000 unsuccessful attempts at inventing the light bulb. When a reporter asked, “How did it feel to fail 1,000 times?” Edison replied, “I didn’t fail 1,000 times. The light bulb was an invention with 1,000 steps.”
THE PROCESS OF BECOMING SUCCESSFUL
I do know for sure that becoming successful requires a process; a series of steps leading to the desired end. I had to think long and hard, but these are the steps that I feel must be taken to become successful:
- Capture your vision
- Build your team
- Develop your success plan
- Work your success plan
- Tweak your plan
- Work your plan again
- Embrace your success
Most important – HAVE A PASSION TO WIN! This what one needs to be successful and not just average.
